She tells me in the only way she can,
hands me her heart,
dough pleated tidy under her fingers,
seam curved snug against my palm.

Momos, Elizabeth Yalkut. I hope you check out my poem in Spry, released today, and the other good stuff in this issue!

There are mermaids in the Hudson. Well, mermaid, at any rate — I met her years ago, and only the once, at that. She wasn’t visiting; it was her home. She knew the currents, the inhalation and exhalation of salt.

— My poem “mermaid” appears in the November 2013 issue of East Jasmine Review, out today, and I hope you pick up an ecopy: http://eastjasminereview.com/issues/issues/volume-1-issue-3/

The world is wily and doesn’t want to be caught.                                                                                       Susan Mitchell

I tell you
I am searching for poetry
for you. That I have not found it.
That I am horribly, horribly afraid that I will have to write it.
I say it casually, teasingly—

oh, my goodness, what an awful fate, writing poetry for you.
